Description

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is seeking motivated Clinical Assistant/Physician Assistant Trainees for positions in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine for a full-time one-year trainee position at all WRHA, Shared Health (SH) and Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) Service Delivery Organizations.

The training program consists of a one-year training period with both clinical and didactic components. The clinical training will take place through various shifts including days/evenings/nights Monday-Sunday. 

Responsibilities

Clinical and or Physician Assistants in Anesthesia are regulated health care professionals who practice under the Regulated Health Professionals Act who are qualified by advanced academic and clinical education to provide anesthetic care under the immediate supervision of an Anesthesiologist or a physician trained in Anesthesiology and credentialed to practice the specialty in a WRHA/SH facility.

The Clinical/Physician Assistant will be required to perform, order, and interpret diagnostic, therapeutic investigations/interventions. Duties of this position can/will include performing history and physical exams in a variety of settings that could include the operating rooms, Emergency Department, Urgent Care, and wards, as well as following patients in the pre/peri/postoperative ward and/or other clinical settings.

Clinical Assistants/Physician Assistants will be required to attend clinical and educational rounds. Administrative requirements will include standard of practice recordings of all patient encounters, these methods may require dictating or utilizing electronic medical records where/when available. Assistants must be able to communicate effectively in English with other members of interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

 
THIS IS NOT A MEDICAL ASSISTANT OR MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT POSITION

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed to practice in Canada or,
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) licensed to practice in Canada or,
  • International Medical Graduate (IMG) or,
  • Clinical/Physician Assistant (Cl.A/PA) with recent experience in Anesthesia or Critical Care
  • Must have minimum two years critical care or anesthesia-related experience within the past 5 years
  • Must be eligible for licensure with the CPSM as a Clinical Assistant or Physician Assistant.
  • Must have excellent command of English language and medical terminology
  • Certification in ACLS preferred.

 

Physician Assistants:

  • Must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Educational Program acceptable to the College and eligible for national certification
  • Ongoing Canadian Certified Physician Assistant designation required

 

Clinical Assistants:

Must have successfully completed and passed at least one of the following:

  • NAC OSCE
  • LMCC

*Cl.A/PAs currently employed by WRHA please see Collective Agreement between WRHA and PCAM for additional information RE: training positions and trainees.

*Two-year Return of Service Agreement required upon successful completion of the program.
